Lulu Stephenson is an artist living and working in London.
Dancing at the edge of figuration, her work explores painting as an act of co-creation between artist and viewer. Transforming, becoming, and unravelling again - the push and pull of forms creates tension and rupture, revealing a fragmented landscape which is neither here nor elsewhere. Her recent works draw inspiration from 16th century non-finito sculptures, evoking a parallel sense of fracture and rebirth. Some intimate and others sweeping in scale, each painting acts as a diary of shadow and light, where the bloom and burnish of emotion emerges from the thickets.
She received and MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art (2024), and previously received a BA in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford (2018). During her studies, she was a recipient of the ColArt Winsor and Newton Bursary.
